Question by thegreat101nt: What is the difference between white, and white-trash? and is there a black version of this?
OK. so i was recently looking at a movie review on netflix. and the beginning of it started like.
( When white-trash “caregiver” Daphne (Lauren Holly) discovers the father of the mentally unstable man she looks after won’t pay up, blah. blah. blah. )
And it occured to me that i dont know any white-trash ppl. or i dont know they are cause there is no clear distinction. and if there is a difference, wouldnt their be a black version of this same analogy?

Question by hydrovitae: How is this a “death panel”?
George Miller, Chairman of the Committee explains Section 1233, a section that was voted on and approved by Republicans in 2003. Almost exactly to the LETTER.
http://edlabor.house.gov/blog/2009/07/health-care-checkup-advance-pl.shtml
“The provision that opponents are alluding to is Section 1233. This bi-partisan provision would allow seniors, if they choose, to have an advanced care consultation with their doctor be paid for by Medicare once every five years, or more frequently if the patient has a life threatening disease. That is all. These consultations include “an explanation by the practitioner of the continuum of end-of-life services and supports available, including palliative care and hospice, and benefits for such services and supports that are available under this title.”
So, a Senior is told they’re about to die. They’re offered counselling. It’s called “Palliative Care.” People who hear they are terminally ill need grief counselling. The Democrats (shockingly) have reacted to the frantic, nonsensical outbursts by the wingnut “Death Panel” Yahoos and removed this section. Good work.
Now, Seniors are told they have six months to live and have no one to counsel them through it. Can someone please explain to me how this happenned? I am honestly fascinated by your Country’s political theatre.

(a little magazine called Time Magazine)
Paula: Thank you for the discussion. Yet, isn’t this a “sky is falling” argument? First, the Republicans introduced this section and had none of these concerns. Now, for a sound bite, they’re all over it. A living will is not necessarily a bad thing, in some situations. It’s a reality. But Doctors do take the Hippocratic Oath which states “Do no Harm”. I’m sorry, but I can’t imagine your country’s doctors racing to pull plugs in order to save a few bucks. Sounds alarmist – at best.

Question by Ms. RnR: How would you like this person working for your elderly relative as a “private duty caregiver”?
This is RIDICULOUS! Calif. Elder Abuse ignored. Read on: 1998 Convicted of burglary with 3 priors, 2004 convicted of petty theft with the priors from before-put on probation, 2004 convicted of battery put on probation again, 2007 convicted of FELONY theft with the 4 priors. There is an executor who lives out of state. They were told of this person but don’t seem too worried. Social svcs recently went out (this is the 3rd or 4th time-the first was when the caregiver’s relative stole from the elderly person and was CONVICTED-the caregiver was allowed to remain) and when asked if they will proceed they basically said no. There are recordings of the caregiver giving overmeds, cursing at person, etc PLUS the fact they are a CONVICTED FELON for THEFT. The elderly person has money as well…. hmmm… Sound fair? I don’t think so either! DA recommended the recordings to top it off, now APS will not do anything! BTW the “caregiver” is NOT licensed or bonded. WOULD YOU GO TO THE MEDIA NEXT?

If my parents ever need such a person, they will be someone I know, not some 8 dollar an hour chain smoking felon. This is SAD.

Question by Roger: Whytf in this day in age are male and female hormones still classed as “controlling” the sexes?
Testosterone = Violence, rage, abuse, rape, contolling, selfish, cheat, liar etc..
Estradiol = Emotion, low IQ, hysteria, always right, nagging, moneygrubbing etc…
Are these stereotypes going to die out? They seem to be worsening imo. Why do people get their info from pop culture and parrot it as fact?
Testosterone in the Brain
“Contrary to what has been postulated in outdated studies and by certain sections of the media, aggressive behaviour is not typically seen in hypogonadal men who have their testosterone replaced adequately to the eugonadal/normal range. In fact, aggressive behaviour has been associated with hypogonadism and low testosterone levels and it would seem as though supraphysiological and low levels of testosterone and hypogonadism cause mood disorders and aggressive behaviour, with eugondal/normal testosterone levels being important for mental well-being. Testosterone depletion is a normal consequence of aging in men. One possible consequence of this could be an increased risk for the development of Alzheimer’s disease”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Testosterone
Sorry I don’t have a link debunking female hormones making women stupid, but i think it’s because it’s not as embedded into society as bad as male hormones being seen as bad. But I know female hormones don’t shape women anymore than male hormones do.
btw, if you have a link on female hormones and their effect in the brain please post.
Deirdre, we have to wait until there is absolutely no socialization of these sexes before we can tell for definite the differences between the sexes, and even when we acheive this personal experiences will still dominate personalities like violence is for the most part learned, so is anger.
